On the edge of Taconic State Park is the serene little hamlet of Copake Falls, centered around a handful of historic wooden buildings and a small traffic circle with a historic four-faced clock.

One of the county’s most popular weekend events, attracting everyone from farmers to second-home owners, is the Copake Country Auction (266 Rte. 7A, Copake, 518/329-1142, www.copakeauction.com), held on Saturday nights. Watch for advertisements in the Independent, a Columbia County paper that comes out on Monday and Thursday.
