To catch a live game, baseball fans might want to head south on Route 28 to Oneonta to watch the Class A Oneonta Tigers (Damaschke Field, 15 James Georgeson Avenue, 607/432-6326, www.oneontatigers.com).

You’ll find good swimming at the public beaches on Otsego Lake at Glimmerglass State Park (607/547-8662, $7 vehicle entrance fee), off County Road 31; Three Mile Point (East Lake Road, 607/547-2777), off Route 80; and Fairy Springs (East Lake Road,607/547-2150), off County Road 31.

On summer Saturday nights, the bleachers are always filled with families and fans of stock car racing at the Lebanon Valley Speedway (1746 Rte. 20, just west of West Lebanon, 518/794-9606, www.lebanonvalley.com). Racing season runs April–October.
