Campsites are available at 174-site Cedar Point State Park (Rte. 12 E, 315/654-2522) and at three island campgrounds accessible only by boat. For reservations, call 800/456-CAMP.
The 1897 
Thousand Islands Inn (355 Riverside Dr., 315/686-3030, $65–95 d) is the last of the great old hotels that once lined Clayton. Significantly smaller than it was in its heyday, it offers 14 modernized guest rooms, some overlooking the river. Downstairs is a restaurant.
Houseboat Rentals
Vacationing onboard houseboats is a popular activity in the Thousand Islands, and numerous houseboat-rental companies once lined the St. Lawrence. Many still exist on the Canadian side, but insurance costs have forced most U.S. companies to close. The one exception is Remar Houseboat Rental (510 Theresa St., 315/686-3579). No experience is necessary, and instruction is provided. Reservations should be made well in advance.
