Calling itself the “maple center of the world,” Maple Grove Farms (1052 Portland St., 802/748-5141, www.maplegrove.com, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., tours until 2 p.m., Mon.–Fri. mid-May.–Dec.) has expanded beyond syrup to produce its own line of salad dressings and marinades. But the heart of the factory is still the sugarhouse, which has been producing maple syrup for more than 80 years.

Maple Grove Farms boasts the world’s largest maple candy factory as well; tours include demonstrations of how syrup is set in tanks to crystallize.
