Shelburne

Blessed with plenty of scenic roads and pastoral mountain views, Shelburne has always been a community based primarily on farming, and it shows, with farmland seemingly everywhere you look. Lacking the active downtown center that anchors so many other country towns, Shelburne is more a spread-out collection of various tourist magnets—the most impressive of which is the Shelburne Museum, one of Vermont’s premier attractions.

Events

Past performers at the Concerts on the Green (5555 Shelburne Rd., 802/985-3346, www.shelburnemuseum.org) music series include Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, and Crosby, Stills, and Nash. Musicians play on select summer weekends on the grounds of the Shelburne Museum.

Shopping

The best bargains in town can be found among the crowded shelves at Champlain Valley Antique Center (4067 Shelburne Rd., 802/985-8116), a conglomeration of collectibles and furnishings from more than 25 local antiques dealers. Pick through the offerings to find fine china, vintage posters, folk art, and handmade armoires.
