Lord’s Prayer Rock

Don’t get the wrong idea when you come into town and see Lord’s Prayer Rock, a giant boulder with the “Our Father” carved into its face. No, you haven’t entered a religious enclave. The rock dates back to the 19th century, when a local boy was tasked with bringing logs down the roller-coaster road from the mountaintop, and breathed a prayer whenever he made it down to see the boulder at the end of the road.

A few decades later, after the boy had become a wealthy physician in New York, he returned to Bristol and had the prayer carved into the rock, hoping it would bring similar comfort to other travelers over the mountain.
