Serious beer drinkers frequent the bar stools at Seven Barrel Brewery Pub (North Country Plaza, Rte. 12A, W. Lebanon, 603/298-5566), where pints of home-brewed specialties like Seasonal Maple Ale, Cream Ale, and Cask-Conditioned Red Ale go down fast and smooth.
On campus, the Spaulding Auditorium (Dartmouth College, Hanover, 603/646-2422, http://hop.dartmouth.edu) at the Hopkins Center for the Arts is where to catch plays, concerts, and dance shows put on by visiting artists as well as students.
Dartmouth’s biggest event each year is Winter Carnival (603/646-2466., www.dartmouth.edu, early Feb.), a four-day celebration of the season with athletic (and not-so-athletic) competitions, giant snow sculptures, and hot chocolate–induced merriment. Incidentally, the carnival served as the setting for a 1939 movie starring Ann Sheridan called, what else? Winter Carnival.
