The trip to West Stockbridge is worth making just to visit Charles H. Baldwin & Sons (1 Center St., W. Stockbridge, 413/232-7785, www.baldwinextracts.com, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Mon.–Sat.; 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Sun.), a family-owned country store that dispenses homemade syrups and extracts, including the best vanilla extract you’re ever likely to taste.
