For such a small college, Williams has an excellent art-history program, and many curators of art museums around the country are graduates of the school. That tradition is felt at the Williams College Museum of Art (15 Lawrence Hall Dr., 413/597-2429, www.wcma.org, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Tues.–Sat., 1–5 p.m. Sun., free), which has an excellent collection of 20th-century art along with a collection of underrated American Impressionist Maurice Prendergast.
Williams is also the only institution outside the National Archives to have an original copy of each of the four founding documents of the United States (the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Articles of Confederation) on view at the Chapin Library (temporarily located at Southworth Schoolhouse, 96 School St., 413/597-2462, www.williams.edu, 10–noon and 1–5 p.m. Mon.–Fri., free).
