Under $100
Directly across from Old Sturbridge Village, Motel 6 (408 Main St., Sturbridge, 508/347-7327, $50–70) offers bare-bones accommodations for the cheapest price around. Rooms are polyester-chic, but the motel does include cable TV and a large pool in back.
$100–150
Don’t let the canopy beds and Victorian flourishes fool you; The Inn at Restful Paws (70 Allen Hill Rd., Holland, 413/245-7792, $120–160, www.restfulpaws.com) welcomes as many four-legged guests as it does two-legged. (“The place where pooches bring their people to relax” is their motto.) From bean bag beds and special towels for pets, the place bends over backwards to make pets comfy—-and does the same for humans, with picturesque walking trails, not to mention healthy breakfasts and clothing steamers in rooms.
The region also abounds with numerous chain hotels, including a Hampton Inn (800/426-7866, www.newenglandhamptoninns.com, $105–169) in both Worcester and Sturbridge.
$150–250
Catering to skiers at the nearby mountain, Wachusett Village Inn (9 Village Inn Rd., Westminster, 978/874-2000, www.wachusettvillageinn.com, $109–189) is a full-service inn with simply designed rooms, but lots of perks. Some rooms have fireplaces, while the grounds have a pool, hot tub, and spa. Packages suited to families and couples also include vouchers for dinner and massage treatments.
While Worcester and luxury aren’t often included in the same sentence, the Beechwood Hotel (363 Plantation St., Worcester 508/754-5789, www.beechwoodhotel.com, $179–340) provides beautiful boutique accommodations in the center of the city. Despite its lackluster exterior, the hotel’s interior features dark woods and plush furniture, along with all of the amenities—printer, high-speed Internet, Frette linens, fitness center—a business traveler could ask for.
More casual and catering to business travelers, The Crowne Plaza Hotel (10 Lincoln Sq., Worcester, 508/791-1600, www.ichotelsgroup.com, $152–309) is part of the national chain offering guests services from valet and newspapers to complimentary breakfast.
