Despite Camden’s location in lobster country, the specialty here is fresh crabmeat—worked into omelets, cakes, and even crab Benedict.
Right on the Camden waterfront, Cappy’s Chowder House (1 Main St., Camden, 207/236-2254, www.cappyschowder.com, 11:30 a.m.–10 p.m. Mon.–Thu.; 11:30 a.m.–11 p.m. Fri.; 10 a.m.–11 p.m. Sat.; 10 a.m.–10 p.m. Sun., $9–19) is a family-friendly restaurant that offers balloons and crayons to subjugate the kids and steaming bowls of award-winning chowder to please adults. Named for an old salt from nearby Eagle Island, the restaurant serves a range of seafood dishes, burgers, and sandwiches.
If a salty waterfront repast is what you’re after, there’s simply no better place than The Camden Deli (37 Main St., Camden, 207/236-8343, www.camdendeli.com, 7 a.m.–7 p.m. daily, $8–17), thanks to the savory homemade panini and overstuffed sandwiches served on the rooftop deck in good weather (and in the casual, sunny café indoors in otherwise).
