The North Woods teem with fishing opportunities on every type of water imaginable, from fast-running rivers to secluded woodland ponds. Among the species ripe for the catching are brook, rainbow, brown, and lake trout; salmon; small- and largemouth bass; and northern pike. Many fishermen head to remote wilderness camps that cater especially to anglers.
Others book trips with resorts or outfitters such as Maine Fishing Adentures (207/944-1691, www.mainefishingadventures.com), which offers guided fishing trips on the Kennebec, Androscoggin, Rangely and Penobscot Rivers, as well as secluded trout ponds.
