Calling itself the biggest little bar in town, Blackrock & Blue (3488 Fairfield Ave., Bridgeport, 203/384-1167) is actually more rock club than bar. There is a bar, of course, which fills up every weekend with patrons hoping to hear some of the best local bands around.
The local laugh factory is Harborsideb (946 Ferry Blvd., Stratford, 203/375-3037, www.harborsidebargrill.com, 11:30 a.m.–10 p.m. Sun.–Thurs; 11:30 a.m.–10:30 p.m. Fri.), where local comedians line up to spill their guts, and split everyone else’s sides.
Slurping down bivavles is just the beginning of the fun at the Norwalk Oyster Festival (203/838-9444, www.seaport.org, early Sept.), which the city proudly proclaims is the “best shuckin’ festival anywhere.” The festival has been growing for the past 30 years, and now features three days of arts and crafts, harbor tours, and entertainment by once-big-name stars (Asia, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy).
If the name is any indication, you can find a kitchen sink at the Minks to Sinks Sale (203/762-0032, early Oct.) held every year in the posh suburb of Wilton. The Columbus Day weekend tent sale includes jewelry, tableware, and whatever other goodies Fairfield County residents have cleaned out of their attics.
