The town singles scene happens at Boxing Cat Grille (1392 E. Putnam Ave., 203/698-1995). Well-heeled thirty- and fortysomethings congregate at its bar to meet, greet, eat (there’s a tasty bar menu served), and drink up while listening to the live music (Thurs.–Sat.).

The vibe is Scottish to its core at MacDuff’s Public House (99 Railroad Ave., 203/422-0563, www.macduffspub.com), where you can down a pint of ale, chase it with some bangers ’n’ mash, and cheer for your favorite soccer team alongside other avid fans.

While many New England communities hold craft fairs, few sport the quality of work of the Bruce Museum’s Outdoor Arts Festival (203/869-0376 or 203/869-6786, ext. 336, www.brucemuseum.org, Oct.); the yearly festival is strictly juried, with exhibitors limited to 80 of the finest visual artists and photographers from around the country. The museum also holds a crafts festival every May featuring ceramics, jewelry, and metalwork.
