Danbury

Located inland from the Fairfield County coast, the industrious city of Danbury avoids the extremes of other nearby communities with a good mix of culture and industry, and a thriving multi-ethnic population with a strong sense of community. At one time—the late 19th century, to be exact—Danbury was the hat-making capital of the world. Today, that title (and most of the industry behind it) has faded, and the town has gracefully settled into the world’s post-hat-wearing modern era.

You might say the area has something of a split personality: suburban in most outlying areas, but semi-cosmopolitan in its rapidly redeveloping city center. Thus residents enjoy the best of both worlds, with easy access to business and events but peace and quiet whenever they want it. Visitors can easily enjoy the same mixture of environments, from the center’s museums to nature preserves of greater Danbury.
