Located in the home of the art colony where “Miss Florence” welcomed her boarders, the giant columned Florence Griswold Museum (96 Lyme St., 860/434-5542, www.flogris.org, Krieble Gallery and Griswold House 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Tue.–Sat. and 1 a.m.–5 p.m. Sun.; Chadwick Studio mid-May–Oct., $9 adults, $8 seniors, $7students, free children 12 and under) displays three centuries worth of American art.

The Florence Griswold Museum’s main focus, however, is the American Impressionist movement, with major works by Childe Hassam, John Henry Twachtman, and especially Willard Metcalf. Among the paintings are many that incorporate the Griswold house and surrounding countryside.

The Florence Griswold Museum also features changing exhibits that often feature artists and movements with Connecticut associations.
