A mind-boggling selection awaits at Antiques Marketplace (109 Main St., Putnam, 860/928-0442, 10 a.m.–5 p.m., Mon.–Sun.), the largest and most diverse antiques mall around. Pore over goods from more than 30 showcases, including collectibles from seemingly every time period and several continents.

Those searching for furniture from the late 18th and 19th centuries will be happy to find Antiques Unlimited (91 Main St., Putnam, 860/963-2599). The selection also features lots of excellent sterling silver (both American and European).

It’s just too cute not to stop in at: Martha’s Herbary (589 Pomfret St., Pomfret, 860/928-0009, www.marthasherbary.com, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Tue.–Sun.). It not only sells handmade knickknacks such as pottery, floral wreaths, and cashmere sweaters, the shop also grows its own herbs in the garden outside, and you’ll find them in many of the products inside.

Locally made vividly glazed bowls and platters line the shelves at Sawmill Pottery (112 Main St., #14, Putnam, 860/963-7807, www.sawmillpottery.com, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Tue.–Thu. And Sat.; 11 a.m.–8 p.m. Fri.; or by appointment)—and prices are reasonable enough that you may want to pick up several.
