If bigger is better, then Foxwoods (39 Norwich-Westerly Rd., Ledyard, 800/369-9663, www.foxwoods.com) takes the prize. With more than 340,000 square feet of gaming space, 7,000 slot machines, and 350 table games, the gargantuan resort is the largest casino in the world. And it’s about to get even bigger with a new expansion, set to be completed in 2008, which will create a new $700 million MGM Grand resort.
For all its superlatives, however, Foxwoods is pretty standard in the decor department, looking like pretty much any other casino between here and Vegas. Like Mohegan Sun, the resort includes hundreds of hotel rooms, dozens of shops and restaurants (which tend on average to be slightly more expensive than Mohegan), and several entertainment venues.
