Park Shuttle
Trip Ideas
Since the summer of 2007, the park has operated a free shuttle bus along the Going-to-the-Sun Road (buses every 15–30 minutes 6:45 a.m.–11:45 p.m. July 1–Labor Day). Although you are still allowed to drive along the road, the shuttle is a great option if you’re out for sightseeing or hiking.
Three shuttle routes—Apgar, Lake McDonald, and St. Mary Valley—combine to make stops at all visitor centers, campgrounds, and trailheads.
Since 2004, Going-to-the-Sun Road has been the site of extensive road repairs (it’s a high-elevation road built during the era of Model T Fords, and it direly needed attention). The shuttle is one way to avoid some of the construction hassle and to avoid the environmental impact of heavy auto traffic.
