Stodden Park (Sampson and Utah Streets, 406/494-3686) has a swimming pool, picnic grounds, tennis courts, and a nine-hole golf course.
Fourteen miles north of Butte on I-15 (at the Elk Park exit) is Sheepshead Mountain Recreation Area: This fishing and wildlife-viewing facility is completely accessible to wheelchairs. It’s a stopover for migrating waterfowl, and moose and elk are frequently sighted.
Rock climbers need only look to I-90 and Homestake Pass, where the Boulder batholith’s granite juts up from the interstate.
Head 25 miles south on I-15, turn east at exit 99, and head to Humbug Spires Wilderness Study Area to climb the 600-foot granite outcroppings or merely to hike and gawk.
