The Cherry Tree Inn (823 N. Broadway, 406/252-5603 or 800/237-5882, $50 and up) is just north of downtown. It features a complimentary continental breakfast, exercise room and sauna, and allows small pets.

Just down the hill from the airport, the Rimview Inn (1025 N. 27th St., 406/248-2622 or 800/551-1418, $58 and up) features large well-equipped rooms. Included is a complimentary continental breakfast; all rooms have refrigerators, and some have full kitchens. Two- and three-bedroom units are also available.

Across from Billings Clinic and an easy walk to downtown, the Riverstone Billings Inn (880 N. 29th St., 406/252-6800 or 800/231-7782, $68 and up) offers continental breakfast, a guest laundry, and nicely furnished rooms.

Also close to downtown, the Dude Rancher Inn (415 N. 29th St., 406/259-5561 or 800/221-3302, $71 and up) is a small and venerable motel with a pronounced Western atmosphere. The coffee shop here is a popular place for breakfast. Pets are allowed.

Along I-90, just off exit 446, you’ll find at least a dozen large newly built motels; barring a major event, you should have no trouble finding rooms without reservations.

If you want to call ahead, try any of these (with rooms between $65–$75): Billings Super 8 Lodge (5400 Southgate Dr., 406/248-8842 or 800/800-8000) has a free continental breakfast. Ramada Limited (1345 Mullowney Ln., 406/252-2584) has a pool and hot tub, and pets are permitted. The Days Inn (843 Parkway Lane, 406/252-4007 or 800/325-2525) offers free breakfast.
