Plants and animals pack as much as possible into the short cool summers of the high country. Hoary marmots, ground squirrels, pikas, and mountain goats are commonly spotted around Logan Pass (6,680 feet), one of Glacier National Park’s alpine communities. The white-tailed ptarmigan is the only bird living year-round on the tundra, although other species, such as water pipits and finches, summer here.
