At the intersection of H-33 and H-42, the town of Curtis serves as base camp for the Manistique Lakes Recreation Area. Three lakes—North Manistique, Big Manistique, and South Manistique—combine to offer 15,000 acres of shallow, warm waters that are extremely popular with boaters, swimmers, and anglers.
Big Manistique, one of the largest lakes in the U.P., is just 5–10 feet deep, and best known for its perch and bass fishing.
