Given the down-to-earth Midwestern vibe that permeates the state of Michigan, it’s no wonder that fairs and festivals, especially family-friendly ones, abound here. All major towns and most small villages celebrate their unique culture with annual events, from music festivals to county fairs. While the summer months, in particular, are rife with such celebrations—from Traverse City’s National Cherry Festival in July to the Detroit area’s Woodward Dream Cruise in August—winter is not without its share of fun. Frankenmuth, for one, offers Zehnder’s Snowfest in January, while Sault Ste. Marie hosts the I-500, the world’s oldest snowmobile race, every February.
