Trip Ideas
Dedicated in 2003, the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics (2350 Petefish Dr., KU’s West Campus, 785/864-4900, www.doleinstitute.org, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Mon.–Sat., noon–5 p.m. Sun., free) houses Senator Dole’s complete 35-year collection of congressional papers, along with several displays and exhibits dedicated to the life of the Kansas senator and presidential candidate.
Located on the KU campus, the institute also serves as a research nucleus designed for visitors and students alike. The Dole Institute hosts the presidential lecture series, during which prominent political figures and authors present lectures on a variety of topics.
Additional highlights of the institute include a September 11 memorial complete with the world’s largest stained-glass American flag, and a video tour that explains the inner workings of Congress and the legislative process.
