From an idea that sparked during Kansas City’s 1976 bicentennial came the Ethnic Enrichment Commission, a mayoral commission that includes membership from 66 countries and ethnic groups.
n addition to outreach programming and related functions, the commission’s most anticipated event in late August is the annual Ethnic Enrichment Festival, a sensory explosion of sights, sounds, and tastes from dozens of ethnic groups that give Kansas City such a widespread cultural diversity.
Watch a tae-kwon-do demonstration from the Republic of Korea or a performance from Israeli Tikvah dancers, or make your way through a mouthwatering array of multicultural foods.
