In Town

Comidas Rápidas El Centro (tel. 504/434-4567, 7 a.m.–10 p.m. daily), opposite the park, is a buffet restaurant where a heaping plate of fried chicken, plantains, and cole slaw will set you back about US$4. The patio seating faces the town square. Adjoining is Helados Castillo, serving ice cream and pastries, including tasty cinnamon rolls.

Buccaneer in the Hotel Colonial (in front of the park, tel. 504/434-4011) is a decent place to grab a hamburger, reported to be the best in town.

An interesting recent arrival to the Trujillo restaurant scene, Karao’s, two blocks southeast of the park, offers a spacious, clean, air-conditioned (but windowless) dining room and bar, and is a good place for Honduran standards.

Reputed to be the best place for Garífuna cuisine is Don Benny’s, in Barrio Cristales.

On the Beach

Rogue’s Galería is a laid-back hangout popular on the weekends with travelers and a local expats, serving up fried chicken and fish, conch, lobster, burgers, and shrimp. The food is great-tasting and well-priced (US$4–9), and the restaurant keeps the nearby beach clean. Open for lunch and dinner, Rogue’s closes at 9 p.m.

A little farther down the beach, Delfín’s serves up a decent meal, but customers can suffer long waits for their food, and groups rarely get served all at once, but as the food is ready.
