The quiet Café Paradiso (Av. Miguel Barahona 1351, tel. 504/237-0337, 10 a.m.–10 p.m. Mon.–Sat.) serves coffee, snacks, sandwiches (US$1.50), and standard lunch and dinner fare (US$4.75) amid a small but interesting collection of Spanish-language books. The café is popular with Tegucigalpa’s local intelligentsia and frequently hosts poetry readings or other cultural events.
Café Honoré, in Colonia Palmira on Avenida República de Argentina, has pricey but flavorful deli-style sandwiches, homemade soups, salads, and pastries. Try the hearty corn chowder, with potatoes and bacon, or the artichoke dip. A hot or cold sandwich will set you back US$8–10 for a large or US$4–6 for a small, while soups cost US$3–5 for a bowl or US$1.75–3 for a cup. Lining shelves around the walls of the café are all sorts of gourmet crackers, jellies, spices, and other goodies, while imported cheeses and cold cuts are for sale at the deli counter.
