The Instituto Hondureño de Turismo (Honduran Tourism Institute, www.letsgohonduras.com) is not geared to the casual traveler. Instead, a growing number of municipalities, awakened to the potential revenue tourism can generate, now have their own tourist offices to help promote their regions. Worth contacting if you need information are those in La Ceiba, Santa Rosa de Copán, Gracias, and Comayagua. Others are springing up all the time, even in more obscure towns.
The English-language weekly newspaper Honduras This Week (www.hondurasthisweek.com) is a good source of general news and cultural information on the country, as well as specific travel hints.
The quarterly, free magazine Honduras Tips (www.hondurastips.honduras.com), sponsored by the Honduran Tourism Institute, has hotel, restaurant, and travel information on some of the more popular tourist destinations, such as Copán, the north coast, and the Bay Islands. It can be found at many travel agencies and better hotels.
