For a taste of Honduras’s national sporting passion, consider watching a soccer match at the Estadio Olímpico, southeast of San Pedro, reached by a taxi for US$3–4. Local teams Motagua and Real España both play league games here, and frequently the national team does also. Tickets for regular season matches cost US$3–20, depending on where you want to sit.
Crowds tend to be impassioned, but it’s generally safe from hooligan-type violence, certainly not like watching a match in many European countries. Watch out for pickpockets, though.
