Volunteer opportunities are available with several of the NGOs working in Flores. Among the options is the opportunity to volunteer at the Las Guacamayas Biological Research Station (tel. 7926-1370, www.propeten.org) in Laguna del Tigre National Park.
Another option is working with the local Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Association, or ARCAS (www.arcasguatemala.com), at its site on the other end of the lake opposite Flores’s north shore.
San Andrés–based Nueva Juventud Language School has set up a website for volunteers looking to work with it on various projects benefiting the local community. Check out www.volunteerpeten.com or send email at volunteerpeten [at] hotmail [dot] com.
