As in many tropical regions of Central America, there has been a widespread proliferation of so-called canopy tours, or zip lines between elevated platforms in the jungle. La Ruta del Mono (8 a.m.–5 p.m. daily, canopymonoruta [at] yahoo [dot] com, $30) is one of three canopy tours found in Petén and is conveniently near the ruins of Yaxhá, about five kilometers along the main road heading west toward Ixlú. It was featured on Survivor Guatemala.
