A good place for a drink and some decent music is Bok’atas (4a Calle 3-34 Zona 2, tel. 5204-1353, www.bokatas.net, 4 p.m.–1 a.m. Mon.–Fri., noon–1 a.m. Fri. & Sat.), an open-air tapas bar. There is live music some weekends and it serves Mediterranean (Spanish) food.
Bar Milenio (3a Avenida 1-11 Zona 4, no cover charge) caters mostly to an older crowd, serves food, and has pool tables and TV screens to watch sports.
The fanciest place to go after dark is Keops (3a Calle 4-71 Zona 3, $5 cover charge, open Fri. and Sat. nights), where the music is a mix of mostly Latin tunes catering to a high-class clientele.
If you’re in the mood for a movie, the complex at Plaza Magdalena Shopping Mall (1a Calle 15-20 Zona 2) west of the town center on the road out to Guatemala City screens new releases.
