Macaw Mountain Bird Park
A few kilometers outside of Copán Ruinas in the surrounding hillsides, Macaw Mountain Bird Park (tel. 651-4255, www.macawmountain.com, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. daily, $10 adults, $5 children) has a collection of birds, including macaws, parrots, and toucans, housed mostly in cages found along a trail and wooden walkways winding through the park’s splendidly sylvan riverside setting.
In one area, you can interact freely with domesticated birds outside of their cages.
There’s a restaurant at the main entrance serving mostly meat and seafood dishes ($5–8) as well as a café along the trail. There’s also a gift shop.
