Distance: 0.2 miles round-trip
Duration: 20 minutes
Elevation change: Negligible
Effort: Easy
Trailhead: Roosevelt Point overlook, 12 miles up Cape Royal Road
This short, easy trail passes through forest burned by the Outlook Fire in 2000, offering beautiful views of the eastern canyon as well as an up-close look at how the forest responds to wildfires.
Young aspen, grasses, and wildflowers grow among blackened stumps. Snags (dead trees that still stand) shelter birds and chipmunks. A bench in this mini-Eden offers quiet respite from the road and parking area.
Before returning to your vehicle, soak in the views, scanning the southern horizon for Comanche Point, which rises above the confluence of the Colorado and Little Colorado Rivers.
