If your alarm isn’t set for dark-thirty to get an early start on a hike or to watch the sunrise, you can find quite a few things to do at night in Grand Canyon Village. The Village Route shuttle runs till 11 p.m. from June through August, and until 10 p.m. in May and September, but most venues are within walking distance. It’s a good idea to carry a small flashlight for getting around the village area after dark.
Nighttime ranger programs include campfire talks at Mather Amphitheater and star parties or moonlight walks near Mather Point. Shrine of the Ages, located at Park Headquarters, may host a ranger talk or a performance.
Inside Maswik Lodge, the sports bar (5–11 p.m. Mon.–Fri., 3–11 p.m. Sat.–Sun.) has suds and snacks, televisions tuned to current games, and pool, air hockey, and video games. The Bright Angel Bar (11 a.m.–close, hours vary seasonally) occasionally offers live entertainment, generally folk or acoustic country music. El Tovar’s lounge is a comfortable, quiet place to gather for drinks and conversation.
In Tusayan, hotel lounges at the Quality Inn (116 Hwy. 64, 928/638-2673, 928/638-9537, or 866/698-2012), Best Western (100 Hwy. 64, 928/638-2681 or 800/622-6966), and the Grand Hotel (on the east side of Hwy. 64 as you enter Tusayan, 928/638-3333 or 888/634-7263) stay open late. The Canyon Star Saloon, in the Grand Hotel, sometimes has live Western music. If you’re looking for a place to watch the game, The Grand Hotel and the Best Western/Grand Canyon Squire Inn (100 Hwy. 64, 800/622-6966 or 928/638-2681) have sports bars.
