Sanibel and Captiva Islands
Trip Ideas
Explore Further
The atmosphere and attitude on beautiful Sanibel and Captiva are surprisingly low-key. Granted, there are dozens of multimillion-dollar homes scattered throughout the islands, and some of the hotels and resorts charge astronomical rates for relatively basic accommodations, but such upmarket accoutrements mask a beach bum’s paradise.
Getting to Sanibel and Captiva Islands
The only way onto Sanibel and Captiva Islands by car is via the toll bridge, which is 20 miles (about an hour’s drive) from downtown Fort Myers. The toll is $6.
Sanibel Island is great for cyclists, with bike trails throughout the flat and easily navigable island, and truly intrepid riders can even make their way along the nine-mile route to Captiva; once there, however, bike lanes are limited.
