Parrillada Las Vacas Gordas (933 Normandy Dr., 305/867-1717, 11 a.m.–11 p.m. daily, main courses from $10) is an Argentinean-style steak house. The richly seasoned meats are grilled over an open fire, and whether you order churrasco, another South American cut, or more traditionally American steaks like New York strip, you’ll still be treated to a cup of their tangy chimichurri sauce on your plate. Empanadas and other light bites are available, and the restaurant offers a decent wine list and an outdoor seating area.
For a diner-style Cuban meal, head for the straightforward atmosphere of the Latin Cafe (441 W. 41st St., 305/531-1057, 6:30 a.m.–8 p.m. Mon.–Fri., 7 a.m.–6 p.m. Sat., 8 a.m.–3 p.m. Sun., main courses from $5). Cuban coffee in the morning is a real eye-opener, and their lunch sandwiches and pork-centric dinner entrées are basic but quite satisfying.
