Since San Pedro de Macorís isn’t a popular destination for tourists, there are few hotels and only one good one in the town itself. Many people who visit San Pedro do so on a day trip or just overnight to go to a baseball game. The Hotel Macorix (Av. Gaston Fernando Deligne, tel. 809/529-2100, fax 809/529-9239, www.hotelmacorix.com, US$50–75 d), built in 1969, is showing its age a little but has 170 clean rooms, a pool, tennis court, restaurant, disco, business center, concierge service, and room service. The rooms are satisfactorily equipped with air-conditioning, a fridge, cable TV, and a balcony. Check-in is at 3 p.m.

Santana Beach Resort & Casino (Carretera San Pedro de Macorís, tel. 809/412-1010, fax 809/412-1818, h.santana [at] mail [dot] cotursa-hotels [dot] com, www.playasantanabeach.com, US$85 d) offers an all-inclusive resort experience. It has six restaurants, five bars (one of which is a swim-up bar in the gigantic pool), children’s activities with a separate pool, nonmotorized water sports, a fitness center, a casino that has free entrance and drinks, tennis, and nightly entertainment. Amenities include a medical center, optional excursions, and the Dominican Village, which has a beauty shop and a minimarket. A standard room is called a junior suite and has two queen-size beds, air-conditioning and ceiling fan, cable TV, a stocked minibar, private terrace or balcony, full bathroom with shower and tub, and a safety box (at extra cost).
