In a bay as popular as Bahía de Luperón, there are bound to be sailing opportunities. Unfortunately, it is not quite as prevalent as one might hope. If you go down to the Marina Puerto Blanco (tel. 809/571-8644) or any of the restaurants and bars in town, and ask around, you can find someone who is willing to take you out on the water. Prices vary greatly. Agree on a price before committing.
Whenever you secure a boat captain to take you out, make it good practice to check that they have functioning radio and radar, adequate number of life jackets for the amount of people in your party, and an emergency life raft.
Another chance to look for a boat captain is at the Luperón Marina Yacht Club (tel. 809/571-8606) just east of the Marina Puerto Blanco.
If you thought that beautiful beaches of the north stop at Playa Dorada, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find Playa Grande, with its beautiful long stretch of golden sand and blue water. The sea bottom is sandy in spots and rocky in other parts farther offshore. A majority of the beach is lined by an all-inclusive, but beaches are public property by law, and there are a couple of public entrances so you can enjoy it even if you’re not staying at the resort. One entrance is next to the Luperón Beach Resort and another is marked by a sign along the highway about 700 meters from the resort.
