The Capilla de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios (Calle de las Damas at Las Mercedes) was built in the 1500s in classic Gothic style, intended as a private chapel and mausoleum for the prominent families of Santo Domingo, like the Ovando and Davila families.
This tiny church is unmistakable as you walk along Calle de las Damas, with its brick facade and triple-arched belfry. It was rebuilt in 1884 after being shut down for a short period because it was pronounced unsafe. Today, masses are held there.
