Really, what could be better for jazz lovers outside of a corner booth at the Blue Note in New York? Okay, that might be taking it a bit far. But, swaying to the tunes under the stars with a cocktail on the deck facing the ocean or inside in the candlelit ambience doesn’t sound too shabby. Syroz hosts regular DJ nights with soul, jazz, and other music theme nights, some with professional dancers.

El Mosquito Art Bar (Pueblo de Los Pescadores, tel. 809/857-4684, 6 p.m.–midnight daily), at the entrance of the Pueblo de Los Pescadores, is the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail from the gigantic drink menu or a plate of tapas. You can sit and listen to the great music on couches on the patio overlooking the ocean. The bar hosts live music and art exhibits that go well with their much-touted piña coladas.

Guia (Pueblo de Los Pescadores, tel. 809/240-5133, 8 p.m.–late) has three floors of nighttime entertainment packed into one sleek new club. The first floor is a disco with merengue and bachata beats, the second floor has a techno club, and on the top is a terrace with a relaxing lounge.

Nuevo Mundo (Av. Duarte, 9 p.m.–4 a.m. Wed.–Sun.) is a disco popular with Dominicans because it plays mostly merengue and bachata. It has turned into a spot for the tourists wanting to experience more of the culture’s music and dance.
