Museo de Ferrocarril
On the east side of Cristina, facing Cuatros Caminos Farmers Market, is the Museo de Ferrocarril (Railway Museum, tel. 07/879-3546, Mon.–Sat. 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Sun. 9 a.m.–12:30 p.m., entrance CUC2, camera CUC5), housed in the former Estación Cristina. You’d have to be a serious rail buff to get a thrill from the exhibits (from model trains to bells, signals, and even telegraph equipment) that tell the history of rail in Cuba.
Sitting on rails in its lobby is an 1843 steam locomotive (Cuba’s first) called La Junta. Three other antique steam trains are displayed, along with various diesel locomotives, albeit without any information whatsoever.
