El Conejito (Calle M #206, esq. Av. 17, tel. 07/832-4671, daily 10 a.m.–11 p.m.) is a good option, not least for its Teutonic ambience. A pianist plays while guests dine on conejo (rabbit), served any of a dozen ways. Also served are beef, chicken, and pasta dishes, plus a decent grilled fish. Entrées average CUC8. It has “student night” on Wednesdays and weekends.
Nearby, La Roca (Calle 21, esq. M, tel. 07/836-3219, daily noon–midnight) has set meals for CUC3.25–4.50, including beer. It’s perhaps the best bargain in town. And the retro-1950s decor is a plus. A comedy show is hosted at 10:30 p.m. Bring a sweater.
