Late-risers (and budget hounds shunning other tourists) might head to the Café TV (Calle 17, e/ M y N, tel. 07/832-4499, daily 10 a.m.–9 p.m.), tucked into the depths of the Edificio Focsa skyscraper. Entered via a tunnel, this classic (and chilly) café space has TV-related decor and serves a North America breakfast for CUC2. It also has burgers, salads, pastas, garlic shrimp (CUC6), and grilled fish (CUC7) dishes. It rocks at night with karaoke and comedy.

Café La Rampa (Calle 23, esq. L, tel. 07/838-4011 ext. 125, 24 hours), outside the Hotel Habana Libre Tryp, serves American-style breakfasts, including a breakfast special of toast, eggs, bacon, coffee, and juice for CUC7. The burgers here are surprisingly good (CUC5), as are the tuna and fried egg sandwiches and hot chocolate brownie (CUC3.50). The hotel also offers a varied breakfast buffet (CUC9) in its mezzanine restaurant.

Pain de Paris (Línea, e/ Paseo y A, and at Calle 25 #164, esq. O, tel. 07/833-3347, 24 hours) sells excellent croissants and pastries.

Most hotels have buffet breakfasts open to nonguests.
