The pocket-size La Moneda Cubana (San Ignacio #77, e/ O’Reilly y Plaza de la Catedral, tel. 07/867-3852, daily noon–11 p.m.) is a tiny, well-run place with speedy service and huge portions. The menu offers Cuban staples such as grilled chicken or fried fish (CUC9) and even pork chops (CUC10) served with rice and beans, mixed salad, and bread.
Paladar Don Lorenzo (Acosta #260A, e/ Habana y Compostela, tel. 07/861-6733, daily noon–midnight) is a rooftop restaurant with musicians and a thatched bar. The large and creative menu includes stuffed tomatoes (CUC2.50) and octopus vinaigrette (CUC5) appetizers, and main dishes such as squid in ink (CUC14), crocodile in mustard sauce (CUC18), and roast chicken in cider (CUC15).
