A multimedia show—Sounds and Scenes of the Cloud Forest—is offered nightly at 6:15 p.m. at the Monteverde Lodge ($5). And the Hotel Belmar has a slide show at 8 p.m. Saturday–Thursday ($5).
Bromelia’s (tel. 506/645-6272, bromelias [at] care2 [dot] com, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. daily) hosts live music and occasional theater in the Monteverde Amphitheater, an open-air performance space. Bring a cushion to soften the iron-hard seating.
Likewise, Moon Shiva restaurant, in Cerro Plano, has live jazz at 5 p.m. on Sundays and shows movies at 7 p.m. nightly. For a similar Haight-Ashbury groove, check out Kaffa el Café (tel. 506/829-5473, 11 a.m.–11 p.m. daily), in Santa Elena. You can sit around on floor cushions imbibing cocktails or get funky on the impromptu dance floor.
For a taste of local color, wet your whistle at Bar Amigos (506/645-5071, noon–midnight), in Santa Elena, or at Unicornios Disco (tel. 506/645-6282, noon–midnight), facing the soccer field north of the village. Both have pool tables.
The happening dance spot during mid-week is Taberna (tel. 506/645-5883), on the east side of Santa Elena, with a nightly disco (free entry). La Cascada (tel. 506/645-5186, $3), a full-blown disco with flashing lights in Cerro Plano, is favored for Friday and Saturday nights.
