Glam it Up, Girls!
Trip Ideas
You and your group of girlfriends needn’t travel far to put together an engaging night on the town. When it comes to the all-important three Ds — drinks, dinner, and dancing — downtown’s Warehouse District has all the bases covered. Best of all, the trip back to the hotel is likely a short one.
Primping in the Afternoon
Why not leave the primping to the pros at Marengo Luxury Spa (401 Euclid Ave., 216/621-4600, www.marengospa.com), downtown’s only full-service day spa. Located at the Hyatt Regency at The Arcade (420 Superior Ave., 216/575-1234, www.cleveland.hyatt.com), the spa offers facials, massages, manicures, and pedicures. While many of the finest apparel shops are located in the ’burbs, Chic et Mode in nearby Tower City Center (230 W. Huron Rd., 216/623-4750, www.towercitycenter.com) is a wonderful boutique stocking fine fashions and accessories from around the globe.
Drinks at Dusk
The Warehouse District is jam-packed with bars, restaurants, and nightclubs. Start the evening on a high note with flights of wine at D’Vine Wine Bar (836 W. St. Clair Ave., 216/241-8463, www.dvinewinebar.com). If it’s nice out grab a table on the sidewalk patio and watch the show. D’Vine offers over a dozen themed wine flights, from light and bubbly to dark and stormy. Pair the wine with a cheese plate or charcuterie board to bridge the gap until dinner.
Dinner at Dark
Deciding where to eat in the Warehouse District is all a matter of taste. For fresh-shucked oysters and tasty seafood, head to the beautiful Blue Point Grill (700 W. St. Clair Ave., 216/875-7827, www.hospitalityrestaurants.com). If innovative American comfort food sounds more appealing, make tracks to the fun-spirited Crop Bistro (1400 W. 6th St., 216/696-2767, www.cropbistro.com). Sometimes the scene is as important as the food, and at the always-happening Metropolitan Café (1352 W. 6th St., 216/241-1300, www.hydeparkrestaurants.com/metro) that’s certainly the case.
Dancing the Night Away
There are only a precious few spots in town that offer views from a rooftop patio. The Velvet Dog (1280 W. 6th St., 216/664-1116, www.velvetdogcleveland.ypguides.net) provides not only great views, but also great dancing on its 3rd-floor deck. Typically, the youthful crowd is as picturesque as the views, with sharp-dressed party girls flirting with buff, if buzzed, boys. This club is just as fun on a rainy or snowy night when the patio is closed, though it can get loud, steamy, and sultry inside. If you’re looking for a slightly more mature crowd and better music in a glam lounge setting, skip the Dog and visit Mercury Lounge (1392 W. 6th St., 216/566-8840, www.themercurylounge.com) instead.
