Valdivia has a lively pub scene. Among the options are Pub en el Clavo (Av. Alemania 290, tel. 063/211229), also a live music venue; El Legado (Esmeralda 657, tel. 063/207546), which features live jazz and blues; and Ocio (Arauco 102, tel. 063/345090, www.ociorestobar.cl), which doubles as a fashionable restaurant.
On the 3rd floor of the Plaza de los Ríos mall, Movieland (Arauco 561, tel. 063/278757) shows current films.
The Centro Cultural El Austral (Yungay 733, tel. 063/213658, ccultural [at] surnet [dot] cl) is a key performing-arts venue. The Corporación Cultural de Valdivia (Prat 549, tel. 063/219690) includes the Sala Ainilebu, which hosts live theater. There’s also the Teatro Municipal Lord Cochrane (Independencia 455, tel. 063/220209).
February 9’s Aniversario de la Ciudad is the biggest local holiday, celebrating the city’s founding in 1552, but it’s only part of the summer-long Verano en Valdivia, which includes many other events.
