Attractive Hotel Kapenke (9 de Julio 112, tel. 02902/491093, www.kapenke.com.ar, US$95/110 s/d) has added a handsome new wing, but rates have risen substantially.
Hotel Mirador del Lago (Av. Libertador 2047, tel. 02902/493176, www.miradordellago.com.ar, US$120–140 s or d) is two decades old, but a recent upgrade and expansion have left it looking like new. Rooms in the newer wing are slightly larger and more expansive, but even the older rooms are good, and from its knoll on the east side of the road, it has fine lake views. The staff often anticipates (rather than reacts to) its guests’ needs.
Its exterior handsomely rehabbed in wood and glass, the pastel rooms at Hotel El Quijote (Gregores 1191, tel. 02902/491017, fax 02902/491103, US$120/150 s/d) make it one of El Calafate’s most stylish hotels. A recent remodel enlarged the rooms and made them more comfortable but, according to some reports, it has also meant thinner walls that conduct noise more easily.
Hotel Posada Los Álamos (Gobernador Moyano 1355, tel. 02902/491144, www.posadalosalamos.com, US$167/182 s/d) is Calafate’s most complete hotel, with a pool, spa, and convention center. Breakfast takes place in the restaurant across the street, though.
